Understanding your result

BMR is the baseline; your total daily needs are higher once activity is included. Use the TDEE Calculator to add activity.

Formula and method

Mifflin-St Jeor: BMR = 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm − 5 × age + s, where s = +5 for males and −161 for females.

Worked example

A 30-year-old male, 175 cm and 70 kg, has a BMR of about 1,649 calories per day.

Frequently asked questions

Is BMR the same as TDEE?

No. TDEE is BMR multiplied by an activity factor and reflects your real daily energy use.
